Adams State standouts Stephanie Cotter, Eilish Flanagan, Roisin Flanagan and Haleigh Hunter-Galvan discuss with DyeStat editor Erik Boal about their decisions to all return for the 2020-21 school year in the aftermath of having the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Championships canceled, as well as the entire spring outdoor season. They reflect on their memorable 1-2-3-6 finish at the Division 2 cross country final in November, helping Adams State secure its 18th overall national title and equal the championship record of 23 points achieved by the 1999 Grizzlies' team. The quartet also reveals the motivation behind waiting an additional year to help Adams State pursue its first outdoor national title in program history following a runner-up finish in 2019. Cotter and the Flanagan sisters, all Irish student-athletes, talk about developing a family within the program and the support and accountability among their teammates. Hunter-Galvan shares the benefit of being in Alamosa, Colo., to not only train at 7,500 feet elevation, but also having several trails to run on in the absence of an available track during the Coronavirus pandemic. Cotter looks ahead to the fall cross country season, remaining optimistic the schedule will allow the Grizzlies to compete without delay or interruption as she looks to contend for back-to-back Division 2 individual titles and guide Adams State to a fourth crown in six years.
